U.S. powder coatings demand is projected to expand 3.5% annually to 445 million pounds in 2013, with a market value of $1.2 billion. Meanwhile, volume growth is expected to significantly outpace the gains of the 2003–2008 period as durable goods shipments are forecast to rebound from a weak 2008 base. MetoKote Corporation, an industry leader in metal finishing processes, including electrocoat (e-coat), powder coat, and liquid paint, has opened its newest facility in San Luis Potosí, SLP, Mexico. The plant marks the eighth facility in Mexico for MetoKote, which has a total of 38 facilities across North America, South America, and Europe. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is issuing national emission standards regarding the control of hazardous air pollutants for nine metal fabrication and finishing area source categories. This final rule, which went into effect on July 23, establishes emission standards in the form of management practices and equipment standards for new and existing operations of dry abrasive blasting, machining, dry grinding, and dry polishing with machines, spray painting, and other spray coating, as well as welding operations. 01 August 2008
