Mankiewicz Coatings Expands in South Carolina

09 December 2009

Mankiewicz Coatings LLC, a subsidiary of German-based Mankiewicz Gebr. & Co., announced plans to locate a new $2 million facility in Berkeley County, S.C.

Mankiewicz Coatings , which has had a presence in Simpsonville, S.C., for nearly 15 years, expects to add new jobs to the local economy via the expansion. The new facility is expected to open around the middle of 2010.

Mankiewicz manufactures specialized coatings and coating systems for a variety of industries, including automotive, aviation, rail and yachting. Mankiewicz Coatings also manufactures antimicrobial coatings used in the medical industry.

“We are excited to be able to expand our U.S. operations in this region,” said Michael Grau, president and CEO of Mankiewicz Coatings. “By expanding in Berkley County, we will strengthen our North American market presence and operate in a strong and business-friendly environment.”

Local officials were also happy with Mankiewicz Coatings’ decision to expand. Mitchell Bohannon, chairman of the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, expects good things to follow. “As a supplier to three of our region’s target industry clusters, Mankiewicz will add value well beyond the new jobs and investment they provide,” he said. “By deepening our base of local suppliers, Mankiewicz Coatings’ represents yet another reason for businesses to locate and expand here.”

S.C. Commerce Secretary Joe Taylor concurred, citing Mankiewicz’s 100-plus years of experience in the production of paints. “Mankiewicz is a leading producer of coating systems serving a variety of industries and has been a part of the South Carolina’s business community for several years,” he said. “We are pleased to see Mankiewicz grow its presence in our state.”
