Because traditional methods like sweeping and compressed air hardly combat fine dust, powder coating facilities often meet OSHA standards with shop-style vacuums. Although these vacuums might be acceptable for general cleaning of dust and debris outside of coating booths, using them to collect combustible metal dust can not only be deadly, but it may also violate the requirements set forth in OSHA’s Combustible Dust NEP, which calls for electrical vacuums used in dusty areas to be approved for the hazard-classified location.
  • Selecting the Appropriate Coating Thickness Measurement Probe
Much has been written about coating thickness measurement methods and gauges. The probe, however, is the most important component of the coating thickness gauge. Proper selection of the coating thickness measurement probe will determine the accuracy and reliability of the measurement results. This article discusses the factors that should be considered when selecting a probe and its common applications. In addition, new technology and probes for non-standard applications will be addressed.

Process Cleaning Expo Set for May

30 January 2010

The Process Cleaning Expo (PCx) 2010—the only event in North America dedicated to cleaning in the industrial manufacturing process—will be held in Louisville, Ky., at the Kentucky International Convention Center May 4–6, 2010.

The Process Cleaning Expo will include two conference tracks, keynote presentations on the show floor, and an exhibit hall including suppliers such as Dupont, Crest Ultrasonics, 3M, Kyzen, MMP Magnus, and many more. The opening keynote presentation, to be delivered by University of Louisville head basketball coach, Rick Pitino, will take place Wed., May 5, at 12 p.m., and will be open to all PCx attendees and exhibitors.

PCX 2010 was created by Process Cleaning magazine to address the growing concerns the manufacturing world is facing today in regards to industrial parts and precision cleaning. “It is more important than ever that cleaning professionals understand the standards and process efficiencies they can implement to eliminate costs resulting from product failures,” said Don Kline, publisher of Process Cleaning. “As companies downsize, the cleaning process can really help companies gain a competitive edge, and we’re convinced that they’ll be able to find it at the first-ever PCx.”

Exhibit space and sponsorships will be offered as a way for companies to increase visibility before key decision makers. In addition, educational sessions will provide a wealth of information on what’s new and exciting in the industrial cleaning market. More information is available online.
